WoW Project: Climate Change

In the Ways of Working unit this autumn, students were working on a seven-week challenge to work as a team to develop a service design concept that tackles the climate crisis.

Through learning by doing, students were introduced to different research and design methods, including Agile methodologies, design sprints and Serious Play into their design process. The teams came up with ideas from food waste to e-waste, all aimed at small behaviour change in daily life that create a significant impact in the future.

Given the complexity of the pandemic, the students were able to come up with innovative research and design methods to test and validate their design concepts over the seven weeks.

In the final presentation, we invited four industry design experts including Asli Ozpehlivan Gungor (Senior Service Design Manager at Lloyds Banking Group), Damaris Rodriguez Franco (Co-Founder at Sonder Design Collective), Tom Norman (Head of Service Design at Barnardo’s), Paul Sims (Product Lead at SH:24). They all given lots of valuable insights and feedback to our students.

This unit was organised and taught by Veron Lai.
