Design for Climate Change in the Global South 2022 Floods in Pakistan

The first Roundtable organised by MA Service Design and Service Futures Lab, LCC, by Dr. Hena Ali and the design coordination team Yuxuan Wang, Yashwanthi B.S, and Ziwei Lin (MASD Alumni) on 6 July 2023, on Climate Change in the Global South – 2022 floods in Pakistan.

Pakistan has experienced severe flooding in recent years, with devastating impacts on communities, infrastructure, and the economy in 2022. As an initial stage in the conversation, the discussion mapped design led innovation collaborations in Pakistan that can help improve contextually sustainable risk management, infrastructure and community resilience.

Hosted by Dr Hena Ali, Course leader MA Service Design, London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, the panel of experts from Pakistan and MA Service Design LCC, UAL collaboratively scoped what the priorities should be now and in the future. The long-term aim is to build a multidisciplinary think tank that can explore design-led Climate Adaptation interventions, information and methodologies to address wicked problems (Rittel and Webber 1973) from a multi-lens strategic perspective around the globe. Insights from the roundtable will be posted on MASD blog here as a point of reference for stake-holders working in the area, and also through other open source platforms for open-access.
